White House Stands by Elon Musk’s SpaceX and Starlink Technology Despite Condemning Antisemitic Comments

The White House reaffirmed its commitment to Elon Musk’s SpaceX and Starlink technology while condemning his recent antisemitic comments on social media. National Security Counsel spokesman John Kirby stated that despite the government’s concerns over Musk’s rhetoric, they recognize the value of innovation in the private sector and do not intend to abandon their contracts with Musk’s companies.

Kirby emphasized that the government’s decision to continue using Musk’s technology does not mean they condone or agree with his antisemitic remarks. Last week, Musk endorsed an antisemitic conspiracy theory on social media, prompting major companies like Apple and Disney to pause their advertising spending on the platform.

Decoupling the federal government from Musk’s companies may be complex due to existing contracts and projects. The Pentagon has commissioned Starlink technology for internet coverage in Ukraine, supporting the country’s defense against Russia. Additionally, SpaceX won a separate Pentagon contract for Starshield, a military-specific version of Starlink that is currently in development.

Despite criticism from senators regarding the Defense Department’s reliance on Musk’s technology, the government remains committed to utilizing SpaceX and Starlink.

The White House swiftly condemned Musk’s antisemitic comments, emphasizing that such hate speech goes against American values. Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre stated that they are dedicated to calling out and denouncing hateful remarks. However, she did not announce any plans to suspend the White House or President Joe Biden’s accounts on the social media platform, nor did she disclose whether they had personally addressed the issue with Musk.

In summary, the White House is standing by Elon Musk’s SpaceX and Starlink technology while condemning his antisemitic comments. Although the government recognizes the concerns surrounding Musk’s rhetoric, they believe in the importance of private sector innovation and maintain their contracts with Musk’s companies.
