wedotv, a global AVOD and FAST channel programmer and distributor, is looking to broaden its audience reach in Italy by expanding its distribution strategy to include satellite platforms. The company plans to launch a new FAST channel platform that will be delivered via Eutelsat’s HOTBIRD satellites at 13° East.
As part of this expansion, wedotv will offer a lineup of 30 FAST channels, including its proprietary channels such as wedo movies, wedo big stories, and wedo sports. The goal is to extend the reach of their FAST native content to audiences in hard-to-reach areas beyond terrestrial networks. HOTBIRD satellites are seen as the ideal video neighborhood for audiences in Italy.
In addition to satellite distribution, viewers with connected TVs will also have the option to watch the AVOD content through an HbbTV app provided by wedotv. This app can be accessed through an embedded link and allows viewers to switch between the linear channel and streaming content seamlessly.
CEO of wedotv, Philipp Rotermund, expressed his excitement for this partnership with Eutelsat, stating that it allows the company to explore new territories in the distribution of FAST channels. By expanding their reach to traditional distribution platforms via HbbTV technology, wedotv aims to blur the lines between linear TV and OTT-delivered services.
Eutelsat’s general manager of the video business unit, Laurence Delpy, welcomed wedotv as their first FAST channel platform on the HOTBIRD video neighborhood. The launch of wedotv on HOTBIRD highlights the relevance of satellite distribution in reaching audiences in various locations. By incorporating satellite distribution into their business model, wedotv can now provide a cost-effective, sustainable, and high-quality video distribution solution to audiences beyond terrestrial networks.
Overall, wedotv’s expansion into satellite platforms demonstrates their commitment to delivering a seamless and convenient viewing experience to consumers, regardless of their location.
