On Wednesday, a total of 57 attempts to illegally cross the Latvian border were reported. Additionally, Polish officials denied entry to 140 migrants on Tuesday. Since the beginning of this year, a total of 2,191 illegal migrants have been prevented from entering Lithuania from Belarus.
Since August 3, 2021, when Lithuanian border guards gained the authority to turn back illegal migrants, approximately 21,500 individuals have been denied entry into the country from Belarus. Some foreigners have made multiple attempts to enter Lithuania.
The influx of migrants into Eastern European Union countries from Belarus began in 2021, and the West blames the regime in Minsk for it. Nearly 4,200 migrants arrived illegally from Belarus to Lithuania during that period, but most of them left the country once movement restrictions were lifted.
