According to the State Border Guard Service (VSAT), there have been six consecutive days of undocumented attempts by migrants to illegally enter Lithuania from Belarus.
On Sunday, 21 attempts to illegally cross the border were recorded in Latvia, while Polish authorities denied entry to 61 migrants on Saturday.
This year, VSAT officers have prevented a total of 2,191 illegal migrants from entering Lithuania from Belarus.
Since August 3, 2021, when Lithuanian border guards were given the authority to return illegal migrants, approximately 21,500 individuals have been denied entry into the country from Belarus. Some foreigners have made multiple attempts to enter Lithuania.
The surge of migrants into Eastern EU countries from Belarus began in 2021, and the West blames the regime in Minsk. Nearly 4,200 migrants illegally arrived in Lithuania from Belarus during that time. However, after movement restrictions were lifted, the majority of them left the country.
