Substantial Wildfires Burning near Mississippi Railroad Tracks

In recent weeks, residents of Lincoln County, Mississippi, have been facing the challenges of ongoing wildfires. Specifically, two large fires are currently ablaze on Autrey Lane. Lincoln County Volunteer Firefighters are actively working to contain the flames.

According to Fire Information for Resource Management imagery by NASA, satellite data reveals that there are two separate fires burning in the area. One fire covers approximately 150 acres, while the other spans around 176 acres, bringing the total acreage of the fires to 326 acres. The satellite detected both fires at 9:18 p.m.

The fires are particularly concerning as they are burning near the railroad tracks on Autrey Lane, close to the Nola community between Heucks Retreat and Sontag. At present, the south wind speed is sustaining at 7 mph, with a forecast of a slight decrease during the night. It is important to note that fire can spread rapidly during windy conditions and low humidity, especially at night.

Lincoln County Emergency Management Agency Director, Chris Reid, has shared a video and pictures of the fire. The images depict flames crowning the trees, indicating that the fire has reached a high intensity, capable of burning the tops of trees.
