Pixxel Establishes Cutting-Edge Satellite Facility in Bengaluru, Opens New Horizons in Satellite Technology

Pixxel, a pioneering satellite company, has set up an advanced satellite manufacturing facility in Bengaluru, India called Mega Pixxel. This state-of-the-art facility is geared towards assembling, integrating, and testing up to 40 satellites that weigh 100 kilograms each year. Led by Pixxel’s founder and CEO, Awais Ahmed, the company plans to launch six 100-kilogram satellites, named Fireflies, by June. In the following year, another 12 satellites are scheduled for deployment.

Revolutionizing Satellite Technology

Pixxel’s Fireflies satellites will monitor over 250 spectral bands with an impressive five-meter spatial resolution. This capability is unmatched by any commercial hyper-spectral satellites currently available. However, Pixxel’s vision extends even further. They have plans to launch an additional six substantial satellites named Honeybees next year. With a total of 24 satellites in operation, collectively known as the constellation, Pixxel intends to facilitate the revisiting of any location on Earth within a 24-hour time frame.

A Cutting-Edge Facility

The Mega Pixxel facility, occupying over 30,000 square feet, was inaugurated by S Somanath, Chairman of ISRO. To support various stages of satellite assembly and testing, the facility boasts modern clean rooms and laboratories. Additionally, Pixxel has allocated office space within the facility for more than 200 employees, further solidifying its position as a prominent player in the satellite industry.

Impressive Funding and Reputable Clients

Pixxel has experienced remarkable success in fundraising, having secured a significant USD 36 million in Series B funding last year, amounting to a total of USD 71 million since its establishment in 2018. The company proudly serves an extensive list of clients, including the Union Ministry of Agriculture, Rio Tinto, and the National Reconnaissance Organisation of the United States, among others.
