The residents of Kampung Malaing in Pensiangan are excited and satisfied with the internet access provided through the Starlink device installed by the Ministry of Communications and Digital (KKD), according to Deputy Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Datuk Arthur Joseph Kurup.
The Starlink satellite internet device was installed in Sekolah Kebangsaan Malaing, making it the first location in Sabah to receive high-specification Starlink internet services. Arthur, who is also the Pensiangan Member of Parliament, stated that SK Malaing is one of three locations where he had applied for the installation of the Starlink internet device.
Arthur personally visited Kampung Malaing to inspect and test the performance of the service and discovered that the residents are very satisfied with the speed and stability of the internet access provided by Starlink. He believes that this stable internet access can greatly benefit children in rural areas by enabling them to actively participate in online teaching and learning (PdP) and explore new skills such as artificial intelligence (AI).
The installation of the Starlink device in Kampung Malaing is an additional facility aimed at offering stable internet access and ensuring the convenience of local residents. Arthur also mentioned the construction of 55 new communication towers in the Pensiangan parliamentary constituency under the Jalinan Digital Negara (Jendela) program. These towers will help provide a wider, faster, and more stable internet coverage, serving as a long-term solution to bridge the digital divide between urban and rural areas.
Arthur expressed his appreciation to Communications and Digital Minister Fahmi Fadzil and the agencies involved in closing the digital gap.
