On Tuesday, border guards at Vilnius Airport checked the documents of passengers traveling to the Egyptian resort of Sharm El Sheikh. During the border control, officers from the State Border Guard Service (VSAT) discovered that one of the passengers, a 31-year-old woman from Vilnius, was wanted by the capital’s police. The search warrant for the woman was issued in February of this year. The woman had failed to appear in court twice, which resulted in the postponement of her criminal case.
The woman from Vilnius is accused of driving a car while heavily intoxicated (with a blood alcohol level of 3.31 per mille) in the capital city last August.
According to the VSAT, the border guards detained the woman and brought her to the detainment area at Vilnius Airport. On the same day, the detained woman was handed over to the arriving police officers.
This year, VSAT officers have detained a total of 967 individuals who were sought by Lithuanian and foreign law enforcement agencies for various crimes or offenses. The majority of them, 764 individuals, were caught by border guards at Lithuanian airports.
