MDA Ltd. Receives Contract to Begin Work on NGSO Satellite Constellation

MDA Ltd., a Canadian company specializing in advanced technology and services for the global space industry, has been awarded an Authorization to Proceed (ATP) contract by an undisclosed customer. This contract, valued at approximately $180 million, will allow MDA to commence engineering and programmatic activities for a new Non-Geostationary Orbit (NGSO) satellite constellation.

The NGSO constellation is expected to have a total value of at least $750 million and will feature a minimum of 36 MDA software-defined digital satellites. This product is a recent introduction to the market by MDA. As the prime contractor for the constellation, MDA anticipates the definitive contract to be finalized in 2024.

Under the ATP contract, MDA will begin immediate work on various aspects of the project, including the procurement of long-lead items. This contract will be added to MDA’s backlog in the fourth quarter of fiscal 2023.

It is worth noting that NGSO includes both Low Earth Orbit (LEO) and Medium Earth Orbit (MEO). These orbits offer distinct advantages for satellite operations, such as reduced latency and enhanced coverage capabilities.

MDA’s receipt of the ATP contract highlights its continued growth and recognition in the space industry. With its expertise in advanced technology and services, MDA is well-positioned to play a significant role in the development of NGSO satellite constellations and contribute to the expansion of the global space industry.
