Lynk, in partnership with Solomon Islands Limited (Bmobile), has introduced satellite-to-cell phone services in the Solomon Islands. This service, called “sat2phone,” utilizes Lynk’s innovative “cell-towers-in-space” technology to provide voice and SMS telecommunications services to Bmobile customers. The launch of this service aims to extend mobile coverage across the nation and facilitate rapid growth for Bmobile.
Currently, Bmobile operates in four provinces in the Solomon Islands, namely Guadalcanal, Malaita, Western, and Central Province. By partnering with Lynk, Bmobile can now expand its coverage and offer improved connectivity to its customers. Devan Kula, the CEO of Bmobile, expressed his enthusiasm for the partnership, stating that Lynk’s service is crucial in saving lives and providing assistance to people regardless of their location.
The initial phase of the partnership focuses on providing immediate coverage to mobile subscribers across Makira. However, as the Lynk service continues to develop, its reach will extend to all parts of the Solomon Islands, bringing modern connectivity to the entire nation.
Lynk has already demonstrated its ability to deliver SMS, emergency alerts, and voice calls on all seven continents. In addition to the Solomon Islands, Lynk is targeting a service launch in Papua New Guinea later this year in collaboration with Bmobile’s parent company, Telikom Ltd.
The implementation of satellite-to-cell phone services in the Solomon Islands marks a significant step towards bridging the digital divide and ensuring that remote areas have access to essential telecommunications services.
