iRobot has unveiled its latest offering in the robot vacuum and mop category, the Roomba j9+. Priced at $899 for the Roomba unit alone and $1,399 for the Roomba and dock, the j9+ is designed to provide unmatched precision in cleaning dirt, pet fur, and debris.
One of iRobot’s goals has always been to create a combination system that combines mopping and vacuuming in a single device. The Roomba Combo j7+, introduced last year, featured a mechanical arm that moved the mop pad out of the way, preventing accidental mopping of carpets. The company has now expanded the line with an improved j7+ and the Roomba Combo i5+, which is priced at $549, making it more affordable.
The Roomba j9+ boasts a 4-Stage Cleaning System and unique Dual Rubber Brushes, offering 100% more powerful suction and pressurized scrubbing action. Unlike competing 2-in-1 robot vacuum and mop devices, the Roomba j9+ is equipped with Dry Rug Intelligence (D.R.I.), ensuring that high-pile rugs remain clean and dry.
iRobot aims to compete with companies like Roborock and Ecovac, which offer similar products at lower prices. CEO Colin Angle believes that superior software is the key to success in the robot industry. The company has focused on enhancing its software capabilities, including features like automatically labeling rooms and implementing Dirt Detective, a technology that determines how quickly a room becomes dirty and prioritizes cleaning accordingly.
The Roomba j9+ is available for pre-sale in Europe, with Canada and the U.S. following suit shortly after. With its advanced cleaning capabilities and intelligent software, iRobot aims to solidify its position as a leader in the robot vacuum and mop market.
