iPhone 15: How to Set Up eSIM

Apple’s iPhone 14 lineup introduced several new features, including satellite connectivity, upgraded cameras, and the switch to an eSIM. The eSIM replaces the need for a physical SIM card by embedding a non-physical SIM directly into the device. This change is expected to continue with the new iPhone 15 lineup.

An eSIM is a digital version of a SIM card that can be programmed and reprogrammed as needed. iPhone users can store up to eight different eSIMs, which is convenient for frequent travelers or those with multiple business lines. The term “eSIM” stands for “embedded subscriber identity module.”

Setting up the eSIM on the iPhone 15 is a straightforward process. When you order your iPhone, your carrier and phone number are linked to the device. As you activate your new iPhone through the Quick Start process, you will see a screen asking you to confirm the activation of your phone number on your iPhone. Simply follow the onscreen instructions to set up the eSIM for your account.

If you are transferring your data from an older iPhone model, selecting “Transfer from another iPhone” will handle the process for you. The duration of the transfer may vary based on server activity.

If you skipped the number transfer during setup, you can still transfer your number and eSIM to the iPhone 15. Open the Settings app, go to Cellular, then select Set Up Cellular and follow the prompts.

For users switching from an Android phone to an iPhone 15, the process will differ. If your number is assigned an eSIM during phone order, the process will be as simple as described above. Otherwise, contact your carrier’s customer service department to obtain a QR code or request eSIM Carrier Activation.

Apple advises contacting your carrier to transfer your phone number to your iPhone through eSIM Carrier Activation or by scanning a QR code provided by your carrier. Scanning the QR code or starting the process through Carrier Cellular Plan Ready to Be Installed notification will add your eSIM.

The eSIM feature on the iPhone 15 provides a convenient and flexible way to manage phone numbers and carriers without the need for physical SIM cards.
