Huawei has recently unveiled its latest foldable smartphone, the Mate X5, for the Chinese market. Despite not providing specific details about the chipset or connectivity system in its sales material, there has been speculation that the device offers 5G capabilities.
The Mate X5 was introduced on Huawei’s Chinese site, with an emphasis on its folding design, camera quality, satellite connectivity compatibility, and strong signal. Huawei credits the use of an AI algorithm for selecting the best network that enables these features.
Notably, Huawei has once again chosen not to disclose the chipset used in the device or provide information about the network connectivity options in the specifications. This omission has led to speculation that the Mate X5 may utilize Huawei’s in-house chips to support 5G functionality.
Publications like Nikkei Asia have labeled both the Mate X5 and the recently revealed Mate 60 Pro as 5G devices. This conclusion was drawn based on teardowns and speed tests conducted on Huawei’s latest smartphones.
The United States has expressed concerns about Huawei’s technology and has imposed sanctions on the company. In fact, the US national security adviser, Jake Sullivan, recently mentioned that the country is seeking more information about the chip used in the Mate 60 Pro and its composition.
The Mate X5 boasts a 7.85-inch inner screen and a 6.4-inch external screen. It features a triple rear camera system with a 50MP main unit and an 8MP front-facing camera. The device is powered by a 5060mAh battery.
Although pricing details for the Mate X5 have not been released yet, it is expected to be available for shipment later this month.
In addition to the Mate X5, Huawei also unveiled an upgraded version of its Mate 60 Pro, called the Mate 60 Pro+.
