Gilat Satellite Networks has recently announced that it has been awarded a contract by Ethio Telecom for the modernisation of satellite networks in Ethiopia. The aim of this project is to improve 4G cellular backhaul capabilities and enhance communication services in remote areas across the country.
As part of the contract, Gilat will deploy its SkyEdge II-c technology, along with hundreds of Capricorn and Gemini Very Small Aperture Terminals (VSATs). This implementation is expected to significantly enhance satellite-based 4G cellular backhaul capabilities, enabling reliable and efficient mobile connectivity and enterprise communications for Ethiopia.
Chief Network Infrastructure Officer at Ethio Telecom, Mr Tesfaye Tadesse, stated that Gilat’s technology was carefully evaluated during the modernisation process and was chosen for its proven satellite-based cellular backhaul experience. Mr. Tadesse believes that Gilat’s solution will enable the highest levels of connectivity nationwide, benefiting both businesses and individuals in Ethiopia.
