The Gärtnerplatztheater, a renowned opera house in Munich, Germany, has recently installed Digital Projection’s Satellite Modular Laser System (MLS). The system, supplied by Digital Projection’s German partner ETHA, consists of two TITAN Satellite MLS projectors, each featuring three light-source modules per projector, providing 30,000 ISO lumens’ illumination at WUXGA resolution.
The Gärtnerplatztheater, known for its neoclassical architecture, is one of the busiest opera houses in Germany, offering a diverse program of operettas, ballet, and children’s theatre. The video department of the theatre selected the Satellite MLS projector system due to its exceptional brightness and unique modular design that fulfills the requirements of the 19th-century space.
Previously equipped with a quad-lamp TITAN projector, the Gärtnerplatztheater needed to upgrade to a brighter projection system after switching to LED lighting. This led them to discover the Satellite MLS, which combines a compact and lightweight projector head with a separate light source. This modular design allows for ultra-bright laser projection in spaces with limited dimensions.
To maximize space savings, the light source is located within the audience area, just 5 meters away from the projector head. However, in environments that require complete silence, the projector components can be separated by up to 100 meters using a satellite link cable.
Josef Saller, Digital Projection’s regional sales manager for the DACH region, explains that theatres demand near-silent operation and compact projectors that deliver high brightness. The Satellite MLS meets these requirements and offers beautifully saturated images from the RGB laser light source.
After some initial software issues were resolved by the ETHA and Digital Projection teams, the TITAN Satellite MLS successfully debuted with a production of Mozart’s The Magic Flute at the Gärtnerplatztheater.
With the Satellite MLS now installed, the Gärtnerplatztheater is excited to showcase the capabilities of their new projection system to their audience. The modular design of the Satellite MLS provides an ideal solution for heritage buildings while delivering outstanding image quality.
