Cunard has introduced a new Wi-Fi service onboard its ships by partnering with SpaceX’s Starlink. Starlink, known for its Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellite technology, is set to enhance internet connectivity and offer faster speeds, allowing guests to share photos and videos, stream films, and access other content more reliably. The deployment of Starlink began in June 2023 on Cunard’s Queen Mary 2, Queen Victoria, and Queen Elizabeth, and is expected to be available in public spaces and staterooms on these ships by the end of the year.
Cunard plans to launch its newest ship, Queen Anne, in May 2024, equipped with the Starlink service. Cunard President, Katie McAlister, expressed the importance of staying connected and sharing experiences while on vacation. She believes that Starlink will make it easier for guests and crew members to stay connected and keep up with news, live events, and content from home.
Jonathan Hofeller, Starlink’s vice president of commercial sales, emphasized the significance of high-speed internet in modern lifestyles, both at home and during travel. He expressed excitement about Cunard guests and crew members benefitting from an improved Wi-Fi service on their ships, regardless of their location.
