Iridium Communications Awarded Contract with U.S. Space Force for Iridium Certus Services

Iridium Communications Inc. has been awarded a five-year base Indefinite Delivery, Indefinite Quantity (IDIQ) contract by the U.S. Space Force for Iridium CertusĀ® services. The contract includes one five-year option and is part of a U.S. Proliferated Low Earth Orbit (PLEO) Satellite-Based Services award.

Iridium Certus is a unique broadband service that offers reliable, global, weather-resilient connectivity for on-the-move internet and high-quality voice access. The service is crucial for the Joint All Domain Command and Control’s (JADC2) communications architecture.

The contract includes Iridium Certus terminals and service, which provide mission-critical broadband and midband capabilities to the modern warfighter. These terminals are low-profile and able to maintain broadband connectivity in fast-paced, unpredictable environments on land, sea, and air, without relying on communications in non-U.S. territories.

Iridium has over 25 years of experience operating in Low-Earth Orbit (LEO) and working with the Department of Defense. The company is pleased to expand its relationship with the U.S. Space Force to support the warfighter’s mission. Iridium emphasizes the increased collaboration between the U.S. government and its partner ecosystem in enhancing the capabilities of the Department of Defense’s SATCOM portfolio.

With its unique satellite network in LEO, Iridium provides weather-resilient L-band connectivity and unparalleled global coverage. Unlike geostationary (GEO) systems, Iridium does not encounter permanent line of sight blockages, ensuring the delivery of mission-critical communications for the Department of Defense and other federal agencies.
