Apple has unveiled the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max, showcasing a new brushed titanium frame that replaces last year’s stainless-steel frame. However, the true innovation lies within the iPhone 15 series’ features.
One significant addition is the integration of precision dual-frequency GPS, including support for various navigation systems such as GLONASS, Galileo, QZSS, BeiDou, and NavIC (Navigation with Indian Constellation), developed by the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO).
NavIC, previously known as the Indian Regional Navigation Satellite System (IRNSS), is a regional navigation satellite system consisting of seven satellites and an extensive network of ground stations. It offers two services: Standard Position Service (SPS) for civilian users and Restricted Service (RS) for strategic users. The coverage area extends 1500 kilometers beyond India’s borders, with NavIC signals boasting impressive precision and accuracy.
The development of NavIC was prompted by the need to have reliable navigation systems controlled by India during times of potential hostility. In the past, accessing global navigation systems from foreign governments has been uncertain and limited India’s access to critical information. Therefore, the Indian government approved the project in 2006.
In addition to the new GPS integration, the iPhone 15 series introduces the adaptable “Action Button” that replaces the ring/silent switch. This button can be customized to perform various functions such as shortcuts, accessibility features, camera activation, and flashlight control.
Both the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max feature Super Retina XDR displays with ProMotion support. They are powered by the A17 Pro chip, a 3-nanometer chip with 19 billion transistors. The chip includes six primary cores, including two high-performance cores and four efficiency cores, as well as a 16-core Neural Engine.
Regarding photography capabilities, the iPhone 15 Pro Max offers a telephoto camera with enhanced zoom capabilities of up to 5x, while the iPhone 15 Pro features a maximum 3x zoom.
The pricing for the iPhone 15 Pro starts at Rs. 1,34,900 for the 128GB storage variant, while the iPhone 15 Pro Max starts at Rs. 1,59,900 for the 256GB variant. Different storage options are available for higher prices.
Overall, the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max showcase new features and improvements, making them highly anticipated devices in the market.
